Compression

ASTM D395, ASTM D575, and ASTM D6147

Summary

Compression testing provides insight on a material’s static and dynamic compressive behavior–often vital to application.

Test Details

ASTM D395 measures a rubber compounds ability to perform in certain applications under a specified static compression. Relevant applications include seals, dampers, and mountings. ASTM D575 can be utilized to further investigate the stiffness of rubber materials. ASTM D6147 evaluates the force decay associated with a material whilst under constant compression. As with most physical testing, compression tests are often run after various conditionings including accelerated hot air oven aging and fluid agings.
